Violet: I've never seen so many fireflies before
ember: thats right, where your from you don't have fireflies do you? Well, not in your area at least. We get quite a few of them during the summer months.
Violet: *yawns and rests eye's*
Ember: We shouldn't spend to long here, early morning for you.
Violet: great...since we both know just how much I LOVE getting up early. *laughs*
Ember: *laughs*

here it is. I worked from 4pm to 11pm just working on doing the color from the sketch I alone spent at least two something hours on.

I again tried doing something a lil new here. I liked how it came out on both Violet and Ember. Backgrounds are still something I gotta master. The moon, stars and fireflies I'm all really happy with. The tree's didn't come out to bad. I just gotta work on doing grass!

I listened to [link] a fair bit while doing the last half of this. I forgot how good some of Sonic unleashed's OST was.

Anyway, I'd love for people to leave feedback, again this is something new I was trying for the first time.

Ember, Violet and the artwork are all property of *Angel-Hearted-Being

Hey, guess who! :3 It's that pesky fox, and she's here to lend a helping paw.

First of all, I liked reading your description along with the piece. It is a very simple, yet cute story and I think your image does a good job of telling it here. The character in the front is reaching out to touch the majestic fireflies, and this makes me want to do the same. (Unfortunately, my hand keeps tapping the screen instead!) D: Their poses are interesting, though I would suggest moving the camera a little to the right but aiming in the same direction so we can see them from an angle. Head-on shots can be good for single-character portraits, but I would like to see more of the character in the background. Right now, it's a little difficult to make her out because she seems to merge with the one up front. This is optional, but I think it could make for a more interesting composition!

I like all the details you've added to make for a more realistic environment. The ripples in the water are a nice touch, and I like how you transition back to the earth with plentiful foliage. You have nice trees laid out, and they all sit nicely against a moonlit sky.

Now for some helpful tips that I think may aid you in future projects. One of the things that would really help set the tone of this scene is darkening up the colors a bit. Grass isn't bright green in real life, unless it is midday and the sun is directly shining on it. The same goes for the water and the trees, etc. Grass usually takes on a much darker, almost bluish color during nighttime. Things become less-saturated as you take away light as well. Equally, things become less-saturated and lack contrast as they get further away from you. For example, as the grass gets further away from the camera, it should fade away into nothingness, until it eventually matches the color of the sky. The same with the trees. The furthest trees should be pretty hazy, gradually becoming more clear as they get closer. If you are working with separate layers, and the sky is beneath the trees and grass... You can achieve this effect by taking a very soft, large round eraser at a low opacity and sweeping it across the furthest trees. Erase more of the stuff that is furthest away from the camera. This should create a haze that takes on the color of your background. If you don't work with layers (which I suggest you do, at least at first), then the same effect can be achieved by taking a large soft brush that is the same color of the sky and painting over them as you would with the eraser. This is all done to achieve one thing, a very important key when creating scenes such as this-- and that is depth.

Your grass blades are great, but you could try using a sharper brush for them. If you're using a tablet, make sure to use the pressure sensitivity! Go from hard pressure at the bottom, and taper off to barely any pressure for the tips. Again, for more depth-- have the blades get smaller as they get further away from the camera. They would be covering the entire place, but you would hardly be able to see them out in the distance.

I like the shading you've added to the bark of the trees-- it gives them some texture... but take it a little further! Add more and more detail. Do the same with those bushes. Really make them 'pop' by adding little spots of varying shades for highlights and shadows. It would be cool to see some definition for the leaves. You don't need to go crazy, but going in and adding some lighter colors and darker colors could make all the difference. I highly suggest looking at reference photographs to get an idea of how light interacts with things in nature. You can additionally go outside and see for yourself. This has helped me immensely. We cannot paint what we cannot see, so it's important to learn from this!

The moon is a nice touch with the stars, however adding some dark blue or purple tones to the sky could help add variance and realism. Particularly around the moon, maybe some clouds would be illuminated by it. Play around a little with the possibilities, and have fun! You could achieve some pretty neat effects. The stars should take the color of the sky, maybe a light bluish tone. Stars don't all fall in one spot, so adding more that are smaller in the distance (similar to the grass) would achieve more depth. I'd say to do the same with the fireflies, too! Add some that are smaller, maybe further away from the character. If they're all the same size, it makes me feel like they're all the exact same distance from the camera. This may or may not be the desired effect, so it's all up to you!

All in all, I think this is a great attempt and you're on the right track. I can see your willingness to improve, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to provide my input. Remember that these are all my opinions/techniques and others are free to disagree with any of them. I'm glad you're proud, as you should be-- and I want you to keep up the excellent work! I expect to see even greater things from you in the future. ^^

I like the coloring in this picture, the fact that looking at the fireflies by the water and sand, gives me that summery night feeling, where I can relax and forget all my problems. I'm in no position to criticize, because I can't really draw, but try to make the grass a bit more realistic. I'm sure Myla and other artists would like to help you with that. :)
